This is a 10-year video essay project (tentatively titled ‘Malaysian Artist at Work’ or M.A.W.) on 10 Malaysian artists and their work.
M.A.W. also serves as a platform for experimentation in narrative based, non-fiction filmmaking (particularly, on different storytelling formats and presentations) using moving images and sound to capture a glimpse of the Malaysian reality over an extended period of time. M.A.W. videos are made so the ending of the first becomes the beginning of the second and so on. The idea is to eventually link them into a seamless feature-length presentation after ten video essays are completed.
The first 3 video essays will be featured at an upcoming exhibition, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 6-7 December 2019.
